NASHVILLE, TN: Michael Fekkes was awarded the Fellow of the IBBA Award by the International Business Brokers Association on Friday, May 4th at the IBBA Annual Conference held in New Orleans, LA.

The Fellow of the IBBA award was designed to celebrate the contributions of loyal, long-time members of the International Business Brokers Association. In order to be considered for this highly coveted and lifetime award, the individual must have been a member of the IBBA for ten years or longer, hold their Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation, be in good standing, and have made significant contributions to the association by serving as a director, committee chairperson, presenter or instructor at a conference, or various other association activities.

Business Sale to a Competitor – Why they Always Pay Less

Selling your business to a competitor a.k.a. strategic buyer will always yield the lowest transaction value.

The unfortunate truth… A competitor never pays more for your business.

Although there are legitimate reasons for a competitor to have significant interest in your business and recognize inherent value, history has taught us that competitor acquisitions of small businesses yield the lowest transaction value based upon price, structure and terms.

While you have built a turn key business that has considerable value, a competitor has most of these organizational/operational elements in place and will view the overall value differently.

Many competitors approach these acquisitions as the purchase of a customer list, picking up a few good employees, add an asset or two, and maybe establish a key relationship or territory with a vendor.  Some are simply looking to eliminate a competitor. The bottom line is that they do not need everything you are selling like someone new to the industry.  The worth of this turn key operation is not valued the same from a competitor versus an outsider.

Michael Fekkes receives EPI’s Prestigious CEPA Designation

CHICAGO, IL— The Exit Planning Institute is proud to announce that Michael Fekkes, CBI recently earned the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) designation after completing the Institute’s intensive CEPA program. Fekkes joins an exclusive group of fewer than 300 business advisors worldwide who have received this designation.

About the CEPA Program

The CEPA program was specifically designed for business advisors who work closely with owners of privately held companies. Using an executive MBA style format, the program is designed around a central case study and uses a combination of lectures, group discussions, case studies and individual exercises to introduce participants to concepts and to reinforce skills. To receive the CEPA designation, Michael Fekkes completed a rigorous 5 day program that involved approximately 100 hours of pre-course study, 33 hours of class room instruction, and successful completion of a 3.5 hour proctored examination.
